ATV Centre History

The ATV Centre was started back in 1979 by Stuart Whetter. In the very beginning he created a small track in the back garden where his son, Nick and his friends had a place to ride their bikes. Then, in 1980 Stuart was invited to a friends party where he was shown one of the very first trikes to be brought into the country. Soon after he purchased his first Honda ATC70 trike which then lead to several more ATC70s & ATC110 trikes.

Trikes were officially introduced to America in 1970 and sold for $595, they were named the ATC90. The ATC70 gave younger riders a scaled-down version of the fat-tyre experience, and by the end of the decade, requests for even more power turned the original ATC90 into the ATC110. The ATC was as evolutionary as it was revolutionary from the beginning.

In 1980 Stuart then purchased a neighbouring field where he could create a larger track for the general public to come & ride these popular new machines. Over the years Stuart bought more trikes and expanded the track as the sport became more & more popular.

Then in 1987 he bought our first quad, a Suzuki LT80. Quads had greater stability & handling than the trikes, but initially they did not feel as much fun. Slowly, Quads were integrated into the ATV Centre, know then as the Trikepark. Trikes where phased out in 1988 and were eventually banned in 1989. In the same year we also bought our first Yamaha 125 breeze which we still use on the track today.

Since 1989 the business has gone from strength to strength and today we have one of the largest circuits in the country. We also have over 30 quads which can be taken around our mile long circuit. As well as the hire side of the ATV Centre we also have an ATV showroom where you can buy your own quad bike. The ATV Centre is the official ATV dealer for Yamaha, Can-am & Apache in the southwest, with all of the latest models on display, so come on down and see us today open all year round seven days a week.
